Abstract
Public health nursing (PHN) is undergoing a resurgence at the present time. A review of recent literature is presented to inform the debate on current developments in public health nursing. Public health nursing has some similarities to aspects of health visiting and evidence from this area is examined to analyse the impact of recent policy developments on community nursing practice and research with an emphasis on the Scottish context. An analysis of the literature published within the last five years indicates the necessity for public health nursing to develop its service agenda in tandem with the research agenda.
