Aseptic packaging plant proposed for Coachella

COACHELLA - The planning commission recently approved a project that stands to become the largest industrial development in the Coachella Valley.

The project proposed, a state-of-the-art aseptic packaging facility, comprises a 166,000 square-foot building on 22 acres of industrial zoned land between Highway 111 and Highway 86, the NAFTA highway. The site allows for facility expansion to 400,000 square feet.

The aseptic packaging of liquids, from milk and juices to gravies and nutritional beverages, uses a process of dash heating to kill bacteria. Employed extensively in Europe for over two decades, the process is especially well suited for developing countries with inadequate refrigeration.
