Heat Transfer Essentials: A Textbook

Students of heat transfer rejoice! Two good introductory textbooks are now available at moderate prices: one is the book reviewed here, the other is an inexpensive paperback published by Oxford University Press ("Heat Transfer," by R. H. S. Winterton (1997)). Both authors attempt to teach the principles of heat transfer rather than the technology of heat exchange; they eschew the temptation to be encyclopedic and contain their presentations to a few hundred pages. Not surprisingly, Jiji's book, being hardbound and almost three times as long as Winterton's, is approximately three times as expensive.
