Burns' 100,000-Mile Odyssey Seeks Consensus, Early Action

By the time: Fred Burns Jr. arrives at the American Trucking Associations Management Conference & Exhibition in Las Vegas on Oct. 4, he figures he will have traveled more than 100,000 miles and talked to trucking executives in 26 state's since being elected ATA chairman a year ago.

Burns, president of Bums Motor Freight in Marlinton, W.Va., said his experience reinforced the view that problems confronting the industry were the same for everyone und that getting agreement on what to do about the problems was what mattered most.

"My No. 1 goal is to reach consensus early and then be proactive on issues," Burns said in an interview with TRANSPORT TOPICS.
