Article: Ifremer sets new ROV record off the coast of West Africa

The French National Institute for Maritime Research, known as Ifremer, recently set a world's record with its VICTOR 6000 ROV, covering almost seven miles of ocean floor in a single dive at depths more than 16,000 feet, or more than three miles below the ocean's surface. This was achieved during a 45-day cruise aboard the Institute's research vessel, the Atalante, last December 9 and 10, off the coast of Zaire, West Africa, with the ROV exploring the ocean floor and sediments at the mouth of the submarine valley of the Zaire River.
