Small Business PROFILE: TEI Inc., Firm designs the technology behind the machine

When Richard Todd started his company in 199 1, he thought he'd hit the ground running.

"People would say, 'We should have business for you,' but that doesn't always develop," Todd said. "It was three or four months before I got some solid jobs."

But he hung in there. "You just have to adopt the attitude that you're not going to let anything stop you," Todd said.

Nearly 10 years later, Todd's business, TEI Inc., is thriving. He's up to 12 employees, and 2000 revenue was $1.4 million.

TEI is a systems integrator for industrial automation projects. In other words, TEI puts together the technology that controls the machine or the process.
