Article: Vaccine for otitis media 'is safe and effective'

A new vaccine to prevent acute otitis media appears to be safe and effective, according to a study in the New England Journal of Medicine (2001; 344: 403-409). Researchers from Finland randomly selected 1662 infants to receive either a hepatitis B vaccine or a pneumococcal conjugate vaccine at two, four, six and 12 months of age.
