What does the renewed focus on neighborhoods mean for community banks?

Smart growth, as a concept, has been around for a while. It's only in the last few years that it's had a name and the backing of a national organization. Smart growth has roots in both environmental and economic activism. Simply put, smart growth is an initiative that seeks to decrease suburban sprawl and bring development and revitalization back to urban centers (see sidebar for the 10 principles of smart growth).
