How are cities and towns today fairing under African American mayors? The 1980's and 1990's brought new leadership and African American political empowerment throughout the country with the election of Maynard Jackson (Atlanta), Dennis Archer (Detroit) and of course, Harold Washington in Chicago.
But what about the smaller cities in Illinois? Currently, the state has 21 African American mayors leading communities in the new millennium, and we will take a look at them over the next couple of weeks.
