NEW YORK-The FDA expanded indications for olopatadine HCI 0.1% ophthalmic solution (Patanol, Alcon) in March to include treatment of the redness that is a manifestation of allergic conjunctivitis.
Ophthalmologists and allergists alike are praising the drug's effectiveness in treating a condition that affects 20 million Americans annually.
"Olopatadine is a `home run' compared with other commercially available anti-allergy medications. It is extremely effective for all the signs and symptoms of allergic conjunctivitis-not only itching, but redness as well.
