Enthusiasm for growth tempered by cost concerns

With eight out of 10 U.S. business owners optimistic or moderately optimistic about the U.S. economy during the next six months, their mood is flat compared to last spring but significantly better than last fall, according to the biannual PNC Economic Outlook, commissioned by The PNC Financial Services Group Inc. (NYSE: PNC).

The current outlook is tempered by cost concerns as more than half of the small- and mid-sized business owners in the survey expect prices charged by suppliers to rise during the next six months. While the presidential election loomed, one out of three respondents also identified taxes as the top issue to impact their business, followed by healthcare and jobs.
