Guatemala took responsibility for the 1993 death of a journalist and two-time presidential runner-up, the South American country's government admitted in July.
Jorge Carpio Nicolle, 60, a vocal critic of Guatemala's military, died with three other associates as they drove along a highway in the country's rural province of Quiche, the Associated Press reported. He had been the publisher and editor of El Grafico, a daily newspaper in Guatemala City, and had run for president in 1985 and 1992, finishing second both years, the AP reported.
