Peanut protein is secreted into the breast milk of lactating women which may result in infants becoming sensitised to peanuts, a study has found.
The prevalence of peanut allergy has increased in recent years, with approximately one per cent of UK and US pre-school children sensitised to peanuts. This allergy is a significant public health problem as it starts early, is often associated with severe or life-threatening reactions and rarely resolves.
