Useful vision can be preserved in patients with ROP

DETROIT-Useful vision can often be preserved if rapid, appropriate treatment is instituted after initial treatment of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) has failed, according to Michael Trese, MD.

Dr. Trese shared the approach that he uses when an eye starts to get worse after peripheral ablation.

"The first thing that we need to think about," he said, "is that in order to give appropriate treatment, we really have to gear the treatment to the pathogenesis. So if we understand the pathogenesis better, I think we can treat the child better."
