Wishard-Winona deal dims

After more than two years of discussions, it now appears unlikely the county-funded corporation that runs Wishard Memorial Hospital will be purchasing Winona Memorial Hospital.

The board of trustees of the Marion County Health and Hospital Corp. has tabled the Winona purchase twice to look at issues surrounding the transaction.

Those issues include the financial conditions of both Wishard and Winona, whether the purchase would be the best use of public money, and a reluctance by Indiana University to manage a second hospital. It contracts now to run Wishard.
