Health system drops plan for hospital

Susquehanna Health System has dropped its plans for a 258-bed hospital in downtown Williamsport and removed the "acting" from the title of Steven P. Johnson.

The health system, comprised of Williamsport, Divine Providence and Muncy Valley hospitals, said the estimated $350 million cost to build a facility west of Hepburn Street was too much and other options are being explored.

Those options include replacing the Williamsport and Divine Providence hospitals at their present Williamsport location, consolidating the two of them at one of those sites or build on the 100 acres the health system owns near the Lycoming Mail, outside Muncy.
