Hooters restaurant opens today in downtown La Crosse

Hooters restaurant, known for its spicy chicken wings, orange decor and Hooters; Girls, opens today at 300 Third St. S. in downtown La Crosse.

It will be the chain's 391st restaurant and its sixth in Wisconsin, said Mike McNeil, vice president of marketing at Hooters of America Inc. headquarters in Atlanta, Ga. About one-third of all Hooters restaurants are company-owned, including all of the Wisconsin restaurants, he said Tuesday in a telephone interview. The others are owned by franchisees.

The first Hooters opened in 1983 in Clearwater, Fla. The chain now has restaurants in 17 nations, McNeil said.

Hooters restaurants open at 11 a.m. daily, he said.
