I. INTRODUCTION
Tourism has been defined as "the sum of the phenomena and relationships arising from the travel and stay of non-residents, in so far as they do not lead to permanent residence and are not connected with any earning activity."1 Tourist activities have grown into one of the world's largest industries; they are a part of people's lifestyles and a factor in establishing social status. In addition, tourism has become both a means of environmental protection and a significant source of environmental degredation.
