Novice special educators aspire to the same goals as their general education colleagues. They want to manage their classrooms well, create effective learning experiences for their students, and use sound assessment procedures. They want to be seen as good teachers who are valued members of their schools. They confront challenges though. They need to determine individual accommodations and modifications for students. At the same time, they must develop familiarity and confidence with supervision of paraprofessionals, advocate for their students to be included in general education classrooms, perform or coordinate complex medical procedures, understand legal aspects of their service delivery, ...
