Central State to challenge proposed budget cuts

Central State University officials said they would file a letter of complaint with the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Civil Rights that proposed state budget cuts violate a 1998 agreement.

The Central State University board of trustees instructed President John W. Garland to inform the DOE about proposed cuts to the university's 2006-07 budget supplement. The proposed cut amount to $1.6 million and "jeopardize the ability of Central State University to continue its mission," the board of trustees said in a resolution, approved at their Nov. 5, meeting on campus.

The Ohio Board of Regents submitted two budget scenarios. The first did not request a cut in the university's funding. ...
