For nearly 20 years, West Virginia has dedicated itself to improving education.
Millions of dollars have been invested and thousands of hours spent trying to make the system better from preschool to the highest levels of higher education.
State, business, labor and community leaders have worked together to make the impacts real, and they say West Virginia is making progress. The college-going rate has gone up, as has the high school graduation rate. The state now leads the south in the percentage of ninth graders who graduate from high school.
The stereotype of the uneducated hillbilly no longer applies to West Virginia, they said.
