Article: Hughes' Black Nativity opens at Goodman Theatre

When an announcement arrived that Langston Hughes' Black Nativity: A Gospel Song Play was returning to the Goodman Theatre's Owen Theatre, it reminded me that the poet laureate of the world had begun writing for the Chicago Defender November 21, 1942.

Hughes had already earned literary recognition as a poet and writer. He had also worked hard to achieve success and recognition as an artist. The invitation for him to become a columnist for the Chicago Defender came from its editor-in-chief, Dr. Metz T.P. Lochard.
