WHY CARE ABOUT SARBANES OXLEY?

The introduction of Sarbanes Oxley to the business world has left many energy executives grinding their teeth in frustration, but according to a panel of speakers at a recent energy trading and marketing conference at the University of Houston, the effects of SOX reach far beyond executive-level employees.

"Why should you care about Sarbanes Oxley?" asked Melinda Brunger, partner, Andrews Kurth LLP. "Because if you are at a public company, you may be asked questions about it. Or you could find that you may be a consumer of disclosure in a position to evaluate a deal. It helps to be able to envision a deal if you're working with a counterparty, as disclosure can actually drive the deal.
