Sign of the times

A Missoula landmark came down Tuesday afternoon.

A sign crew with a torch and two cranes first dismantled, then lowered the yellow sign that has presided over the parking lot of Grizzly Grocery on Higgins Avenue for 40 years.

"Grizzly Grocery Western Union Money Orders" - the sign is no more.

"It just seems very, very, sad," said a somber Loree Herr, who owns the grocery with her husband Dennis. "That sign is what brought people into Grizzly Grocery. It's a landmark that's gone."
