Article: Wheeling Island kennel cough outbreak apparently under control

Officials at Wheeling Island Racetrack & Gaming Center said they believe a kennel cough outbreak among their racing greyhounds is under control.

Wheeling Island President and General Manager Geoff Andres said most of the older dogs had built up their immunity to the disease during a 2004 outbreak and were not affected by the current outbreak.

"I think we're on the back end of it now," Andres said. "Probably three weeks from now we'll be completely in the clear. The dogs that have it now will have two weeks to completely recover ... and get back in the racing rotation."
