Topical cyclosporine relieves dry eye in contact lens wearers

Treatment with topical cyclosporine ophthalmic emulsion 0.05% (Restasis, Allergan) is beneficial for improving contact lens-related dryness and reducing contact lens intolerance, according to Milton E. Hom, OD.

Dr. Hom, a private practitioner in Azusa, CA, investigated the efficacy and safety of topical cyclosporine in a study of 16 patients with self-reported contact lens-related dryness. The subjects were randomly assigned to use the cyclosporine drops or a carboxymethylcellulose rewetting solution (Refresh Contacts, Allergan) twice daily-once before putting their lenses in each morning and again after taking them out for the day.
