Tallis Scholars in The Magic Flute in Brighton
On 23 January in St George's Church, Kemptown, Brighton something rare and unusual happened. I was intrigued when I received an invitation to go to a fundraiser for the Brighton Early Music Festival to hear the Tallis Scholars give a concert performance of Mozart's The Magic Flute.
On the night, Peter Phillips, the Tallis Scholars' Director and the evenings Narrator sat in an armchair at the front of the stage wearing a wine-coloured velvet jacket and a story teller's hat. Relaxed and funny he set the stage for us and introduced our musician for the evening, the young pianist Alex Soddy who rose majestically to the occasion and played very well.
