As part of the Forms of the Old Testament Literature series, Campbell's commentary on 1 Samuel follows its format of Structure (an outline), Textual Issues, Discussion, Genre, Setting, and Meaning (Intention). Large units of text (i.e., several chapters) are outlined and discussed initially and then broken down into smaller components. The outlines exhibit C.'s sensitive reading of the text, honed by a lifetime of engagement with the Book of Samuel.
