Outstanding West Virginia communities were expected to be honored at the annual Main Street awards banquet April 20 in Charleston.
The West Virginia Development Office, which houses the Main Street West Virginia program, is part of the state Department of Commerce.
The event rewards communities and special projects that best reflect the Main Street four-point approach of downtown economic development: design, economic restructuring, promotion and organization.
The 2004 awards include the following:
For its work in economic restructuring, Main Street Kingwood won the small town category, and Main Street Morgantown won the large community category.
