A 35-year-old woman with a history of severe depression, suicide attempts, and taking multiple psychiatric drugs, was admitted for a cesarean-section. The anesthesia provider administered an epidural that was left in place for postoperative pain management.
The intraoperative and postanesthesia care unit (PACU) periods went well. Because the patient had a history of dyspnea, the anesthesia provider ordered pulse oximeter monitoring for 24 hours and to be notified of any changes in respiratory status.
