FedEx to Add 75 Hybrid Trucks To Fleet Within Next 12 Months

FedEx Express, the express parcel and air freight subsidiary of FedEx Corp., said it planned to add up to 75 hybrid-electric trucks to its fleet in the next 12 months to increase fuel efficiency, with details of the purchase contingent upon pricing and availability.

FedEx said April 22 that its E700 hybrid-electric vehicle uses battery-driven electrical power to supplement the output of the trucks' 4-cylinder Detroit Diesel engines.

Eaton Corp., which supplied the hybrid technology to FedEx, called for federal incentives for purchasers to expand the market.
