AOCS refines methodology for trans fatty acid analysis

U.S. Food and Drug Administration (PDA) labeling regulations to be implemented in 2006 require that fat content and fatty acid information include the level of tram fatty acids present in a food. Since shortcomings were apparent in the currently used AOCS and AOAC methods to define the fatty acid composition and fat content, AOCS, through collaborative study, refined its methodology for trans fatty acid analysis to meet FDA regulations.
