More specialist sexual health nurses needed

SEXUAL HEALTH
Nurses' professional bodies have called for an increase in the number of specialist sexual health nurses to help fulfil the requirements of a new set of government standards on sexual health services.
The new standards, Recommended Standards for Sexual Health Services, launched in March, give guidance to healthcare professionals as well as explaining to the public what level of sexual health services they can expect.
The standards include:
* A programme of sexual health promotion to help reduce the risk of STIs and unwanted pregnancy.
* Improved detection of sexual health need, including chlamydia screening.
* Improved access to, and information on, service provision.
