Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, chairman of FIAT S.p.A. and chairman of Confindustria, was honored May 10 at the NIAF Gala Benefit Dinner in Rome, Italy. Montezemolo, who has played a major role in Ferrari for more than 30 years, received the NIAF U.S./Italy Friendship Award for his corporate accomplishments in leading Italians and Americans into the 21st century.
After his graduate studies at Rome's La Sapienza and Columbia University in New York, Montezemolo was drafted into Ferrari by FIAT in 1973. A year later he assumed control of the Ferrari F1 team and guided them to F1 World titles with Niki Lauda in 1975 and 1977. He became the youngest senior manager in the history of the company ...
