At his first major trade show in the Northeast, Thomas Laville encountered a tony New York buyer who examined the company's collection of photo frames and sniffed, "Who's the artist?"
"There's no artist," Laville recalls incredulously. "It's a square."
In his 13 years in the framing and gift industry, Laville has built up a bit of resilience and resourcefulness as well as thousands of picture frames, mirrors and accessories. He has successfully applied a businessman's cool sensibilities to a market ruled by impulse and style.
