National Guard Memorial Museum Receives New OIF Artifacts

The National Guard Memorial Museum received several artifacts directly from the field in Iraq last month that illustrate the challenges Guardsmen face today on the ground. It's also a chilling reminder of the tasks citizen-soldiers must face in the days to come.

Among the donated items was a protective mask from the old Iraqi regime under Saddam Hussein.

While no substantial evidence of chemical or biological weapons were found after Operation Iraqi Freedom began, Mr. Hussein had a well-known history of using gas against the Iranians in the Iran-Iraq war in the 1980s and against the Kurds within Iraq in the early 1990s.
