When Jim Mooney, Jim Elash and Jeff Winterbourne left Herre Bros. Inc. and opened their own heating, ventilation and air-conditioning service company in 2002, they decided they wanted to be a union shop. They bucked a trend nationwide and in Pennsylvania, and they say it is paying off.
Their company, Enginuity, earned a Star certification this summer from Marylandbased Mechanical Service Contractors of America. Enginuity is the first Pennsylvania firm to receive the mark of quality services. Mooney was recognized at the group's conference in Vancouver, British Columbia, the week of Sept. 18.
