Montana is poised to become a haven for biomedical research but is simultaneously on the brink of losing its status as a respected but small research center, according to a head of the state's oldest science lab.
Dr. Marshall Bloom, associate director of Rocky Mountain Laboratories in Hamilton, spoke Friday it St. Vincent Healthcare during the Ideas Montana Medicine conference.
"The places that have been successful in the biomedical arena have emerged from areas where there is a tradition and history of excellence in basic and applied biomedical research," Bloom said. "Montana has a tradition of excellence in biomedical research areas."
