TINA THARP
You ask Tina Tharp to show you one move, any move, from her rhythmic gymnastics routine. Suddenly, with a buttery motion, she glides her left leg high into the air, resting her knee within mere inches of her ear.
A rubber band couldn't stretch any better. But this is a young lady, a 15-year-old sprite with freckles and gumption. Holding her pose for the camera, she smiles easily, her stance statuesque. No wobbles, no worries.
"For a while my routines were really cute and happy, but now they're serious," announces the bouncy lass from Jacksonville, Florida. "That's mostly because I'm older. My coaches wanted something different this year so I'd be noticed even more."
