Article: Small-college money woes not unusual: Rocky faces challenges in low-income region

Rocky Mountain College has special challenges that some similarly sized schools in other parts of the country don't.

The region from which Rocky draws it students - Montana, northern Wyoming, eastern Idaho and western North Dakota - has a median income of about $22,000 per adult, said Michael Mace, Rocky's interim president.

Families struggle to send their children to college anywhere and may find it even more difficult to think about a private school like Rocky.

Rocky's tuition is about $15,000 a year. Add room and board and the basic cost to attend Rocky for a year reaches $20,000.
