Paying bills by touch instead of by check
Q: I like the idea of saving time by paying my bills electronically, but using a computer to do it seems too complicated. Is there a simpler alternative?
A: More and more banks will let you pay bills via Touch-Tone phone. If yours doesn't, you can sign up with one of several services, such as Payline (800-572-9546) or CheckFree (800-882-5280). You'll give the service information about billers you expect to pay regularly and identify the bank account the money will come from.
