Some ill- conceived experiments with empowered teams in the classroom have done a great deal of damage and have taught the wrong lessons about teamwork and cooperation to the students involved. Thankfully there've been successes as well.
Many institutions have enjoyed remarkable success with empowered teams and have reaped many benefits from involving students in team based learning.
The teams I'll be describing here are not made up of specially selected, high-performing individuals. They are teams made up of everyday students from classes in English, Government, History and Social Studies.
