Article: Vietnam: U.S-Vietnam trade agreement taking effect in November

On October 3, 2001, the U.S. Senate ratified the bilateral trade agreement between the U.S. and Vietnam by a vote of 88 to 12. With the ratification already given by the House of Representatives, President Bush signed this agreement on October 17. The Vietnamese government -has also expressed its intention to ratify the said agreement.

With this trade agreement coming into force, consultations concerning the "U.S.-Vietnam Textile Agreement" are going to be arranged between both countries on textile products, which are anticipated to become the greatest export item to the U.S. The term of this trade agreement is three years and shall automatically be extended every three years.
