Article: New Lansing quilt shop fills a niche for artists

LANSING, Iowa - Amy Fuehrer was visiting her family in Allamakee County when she came across a building that would bring her back permanently.

The brick building stood on the corner of Main Street in the quaint community about 30 miles south of La Crosse.

Its big picture window and long shape would be perfect for a quilt shop, she told her mother as they walked by.

Fuehrer took her idea to heart and opened Yellow Bird Art, a store for artists of all sorts, in September.

Hundreds of brightly colored and uniquely patterned quilting fabrics dominate the scene, while beads, sewing kits, soaps, pottery and lotions also are available.
