Article: Loophole lets pubs sell beer to go on Sundays

Controversy surrounding a law that allows brewpubs to sell beer to go on Sundays is likely to come to a head when it goes before state lawmakers this year.

The law has been dormant for years in Colorado, but was recently aroused by the onslaught of new brewpubs in the state, according to David Edgar of the Institute for Brewing Studies.

"During the earlier days, when there were just a handful of brewpubs, the brewpub owners--out of respect for the rest of the alcohol-beverage industry in the state--decided not to exercise that option," Edgar says. Since the brewpub industry has grown by "leaps and bounds," with nearly 40 brewpubs in the state, things have changed, he says.
