The Central Plateau, extending through most of central Spain, is crossed from the southwest to the northeast by an important mountain range (the Central System), which extends through several Spanish regions (Figure 1).( all figures omitted) Pan of this mountain range, mostly located in Avila province, is the Sierra de Gredos. In the Avila province limits the Gredos mountains include two closed valleys in the north (the Tormes and the Alberche), whereas the southern slope opens onto the Castilian Plateau (Tietar valley).
