Although most segments of the retail pharmacy marketplace sell more prescriptions than do food stores, food stores beat most of the other segments in sales of over-the-counter drugs.
When it comes to OTC sales, food stores benefit from the many repeat visits most consumers make to the stores, explained Douglas Long. Long is v.p., field services, IMS America, a pharmaceutical market research company based in Totowa, N.J. He reviewed pharmaceutical sales trends for 1995 when he spoke at the annual conference of the National Council for Prescription Drug Programs, held in mid-February at Scottsdale, Ariz.
