When I was asked to contribute to this issue of the Israel Journal of Psychiatry I was very pleased to respond as I consider the moment is right to introduce ourselves to our Israeli colleagues. The moment is right for several reasons. First, there is new hope that the current political change may bring peace and stability to our two neighboring nations, the Palestinian and the Israeli. Second, there are significant changes taking place within community mental health service in Palestine that have also attracted the attention of some mental health professionals in Israel.
