An important locus of research within human geography is concerned with the barriers married women face in gaining geographic access to job opportunities within urban labor markets (Cooke 1996; England 1993; McLafferty and Preston 1991, 1993; Preston, McLafferty, and Hamilton 1993; Johnston-Anumonwo 1992; Hanson and Pratt 1988a, 1988b, 1991; Nelson 1986; Hanson and Johnston 1985; Madden 1981).
