Black Hills Corp.: Energy deja vu

HELENA - If the latest suitor of NorthWestern Corp. gives Montanans a sense of deja vu, it's with good reason and in more ways than one.

Black Hills Corp., an energy and utility firm based in Rapid City, S.D., looks very much like the corporate giant that once ruled the Montana energy landscape: Montana Power Co.

Like Montana Power before its sell-off and disintegration after utility deregulation here, Black Hills runs regulated electric and gas utilities and owns coal mines, natural gas wells and power plants that help supply its customers.
